Caught a dozen between 2 of us. Nothing large but lots of fun. Most were spots coming off floating worms and brushhogs. Hope to get out again in a day or 2.

The main reason for this post is to show some of the sites I use to help me plan my fishing trips, Tournaments, etc..

1- WaterWatch. The "Real-time streamflow" map tracks short-term changes (over several hours) in rivers and streams. Although the general appearance of the map changes very little from one hour to the next, individual sites may change rapidly in response to major rain events or to reservoir releases.
The map depicts streamflow conditions as computed at USGS streamgages

2-Barometric Pressure and weather patterns.
Awesome weather data for the whole county

3- angling-technologies Mapping site that is angler friendly.

4-Free online Topo maps.
I use this one alot also.

I'll leave you with a hog caught last june. right at 10, hit a Bandit flatmax in a foot of water. mucho fun. Can't wait to beat that one this year.

From Fishcraze Pictures

Fish on
Danny

Happy Easter and good fishing!

Happy Easter to all my fishing friends!
Sorry haven't updated in a while. Guess I could start every blog post with that one:)

Second thought, I'm very happy that we spring forward this coming Saturday night. I'm a very much sun, warm, daylight loving guy. Matter of fact, I have no doubt if I lived anywhere much north than where I do now, I would MOVE :) heck, I think I'm too far north as it is now in central Alabama.

Third thought, I'm thinking even though the water temps are still a little cool for this time of the year the bass will start to move up this weekend with the new moon.I'll be there on the water to find out for sure:) I'll let you know what I find out.

Fishing Thoughts, trips. This past Sunday(3-7-10)I went down to Lake Lu in Livingston to fish a little and see if I could find any big girls biting. I didn't, I did catch 4, 1 on a rattlebait, 1 on a yumdinger and 2 dinks on a shakyhead.
Beats about anything else I can think of that requires cloths :)

Last thought, saving the best for last. I have met a female that is Beautiful, loves to fish, and is good at it. Smart, lawyer smart, funny and a great person. Want to meet her too :)
/Go Here and see for yourself. She's got it going on and I know you'll enjoy following her blog and keep up with the big fish she catches.
She's the Fisherbabe and I'm happy to call her a good friend. Stop by and say hi!

I'll leave ya'll with a pic I took Sunday afternoon since I had no pics of fish how about a nice southern sunset pic.

Life's short, hug those you love and get outside!
Danny

How Kevin Van Dam fishes the Red Eye Shad

The Bassmaster Classic winner shows how he fishes the Strike king red eye rattlebait.

Yesterday DJ(son) and myself went fishing for a little while. I decided to fish when I heard they moved the Tournament a day later due to the weather. This is my first BFL and I'll be fishing the rest hoping to qualify for the regional on Lake Seminole this year.

The day started out cold but clear.

They had almost 100 boats show up. I'm sure the change and the fact it was VD day and moved to Sunday caused several boats to withdraw.

I had to pleasure to fish with boater Bill Hutchison. Bill drives a Nitro Z9 duel center console. Man, what a awesome boat and Bill was a great partner to draw.
(thanks Bill)
Bill and his wife had been up since Friday and fished a good bit in the nasty snow and weather Friday and then spent Saturday fishing after it was moved to Sunday.
Bill said in 2 days he and his wife only got a bite or 2 and the fishing was very tough, cold and muddy. Bill did find some clearer water on Saturday and Sunday it cleared up a little more.

We started fishing up a creek on the northern side where he found a little better water. We started fishing a point with a couple of docks and a seawall.
Since the only thing they got a bite on was a worm, we both pretty much started fishing slow and on the bottom, Bill used a lizard and I started with a yumdinger on a spotremover jighead and also a brushhog.

The boat was frozen, our feet, hands and just about everything was frozen. The net was caught in a storage locker and we couldn't get it opened until about noon. The first few hours our guides kept freezing up and that's a pain to deal with for sure.

We fished the point and then headed down a deeper bank that had some rock and also had the sun hitting it(when the clouds would let it:) I picked up the first keeper in about 6ft deep off the rocks. I thought it was going to be a great start:)

After a little while and no other bites we moved on. The next stop was a sharp rocky point that dropped off to about 18 ft. Bill got his first keeper here, it was really a reaction bite, when he got hung up on the rocks and jerked it off the fish hit.

We fished it for a little while with no other bites and moved across a little bay to a bank with more rocks and deep water.
This bank had a channel swing that hit it and Bill caught his next keeper and I caught a shot or 2:( We had more bites here than anywhere we fished or Bill fished for 3 days. Plus we had 2 more fishers here so it looked like a good place to pick apart and we did.

We fished it pretty hard, Bill caught a nonkeeper and we fished it on down hoping for more bites or signs of action. By this time, the winds started picking up(I'm fishing so the wind must be blowing:) After no more action we went to try some shallow muddy water looking for warmer water. We found it, up to almost 49 degrees but very muddy and we couldn't get anything going at all. so we decided to go back to the point and then our deep bank where we had some bites. The wind made the point almost impossible to fish. By now, we had 15-20 mph winds and fishing was hard anywhere in the wind and our best spot was in the wind. On our 3rd stop on the channel swing Bill caught his 3rd keeper up in about 6 inches of water, I think Bill hit it in the head and the bass was trying to protect itself:) I caught a another small dink:(

We fished here to time to go back and really just try to make one bite by shaking a worm in their face but it didn't happen.

Hindsight, I wished I would have try to go deeper with a crankbait on that channel bend but again that's hindsight and it is what it is.

Got back to the ramp and got ready to weight in. Glad I had something to weight, getting skunked sucks!

In line to weight our fishes.

On stage,at least I got a few points, I finished 55 and Bill finished in 33rd so both of us have a good start to the season.

Bill and myself after the weight in.

Thanks Bill I really enjoyed fishing with you and look forward to seeing you and your wife at the next one.
Stage and after Tournament photos by Carrie Hutchison, Bill's beautiful and sweet wife, oh she a bass fisherperson also:)

Here's the link to FLW site

Standing,

Funny video

Check out my big Johnson

Very funny, hope everyone enjoys.

Hopefully this weekend,I'll be fishing somewhere and will have a blog post up Monday about the fishing.

Saturday the 6th I'll be over at the Acedemy in Tuscaloosa. I have HUGE plans for 2010. I plan on chasing down the Alabama State record large mouth bass.
I need to beat 16.8 and that's a giant bass no doubt.
I know where she lives, I know how to catch her, I just need a little fishing luck to fool her into thinking that piece of materiel is lunch:)

I'll post here and on my forums to those that care can follow my plan.

More to come later. First thinks first.
Merry Christmas!
Happy New Year!
ROLL TIDE all the way this year!
THEN, it's time to get serious about catching that old gal that's out there swimming around and eating anything she wants:)

Fish on
Danny

Fishing trip from long ago but never forgot!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_TLknzA3EvJY/SsOkJzQMxvI/AAAAAAAAABg/dOSkefgQDzI/s320/oblake.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5387330067549177586" />

Many years ago we used to fish a old oxbow lake off the black warrior river near Fosters Al. There was 2 or 3 of these, you had to be a member or have a member with you. I was lucky my friend was as I couldn't and still can't afford their rates:)
The lake we were fishing was full of standing timber, laydowns, weeds, Lilly pads every where, the kind of lake Bill Dance seems to fish often:)
We started our morning throwing buzzbaits, pink floating worms and topwater baits. We prolly caught 20 or so "footballs" these fish were healthy almost as fat as long and dark green color. The water was a tanic color and full of fish.
After fishing around one side and wearing out the bass I decided to go big:) I tied on a 12 inch worm without a weight and swam it among the lillypads. There was a section of pads, prolly around 20'x20' 15 or 20 feet off the bank that we haven't fished yet.

My first cast across the pads, I slowly started swimming the big worm when the whole pad field exploded, and I mean exploded, the wake of it made our 12' boat roll. We both about had a heart attack and thought that had to be a state record of some sort. I miss the biggest strike I've EVER had:(
Well, I reeled up and made another cast same place, I hadn't move the worm 2 feet when the fish hit again, blew a hole about 5 feet and missed my worm. I kept on swimming the worm(now my shakes had put more action to it also:)Bout 5 feet more and again someone threw a cinder block into the pads at my worm, and again it missed:( I was just about to the end of the 20 or so feet of pads when it happened again, this time I dropped my rod and watched my line, this time it started moving and set back with all I had, when I stuck the fish it didnt move, I set it again and this time the fish went ballistic, it pulled our little tin boat about 20-30 feet while I tried to gain control. After about 5 minutes, seemed like 5 hours I had the fish close and told my buddy to get ready to help. We had no net and didnt know what we had yet. When the fish surfaced it was the biggest gar I had ever seen in my life.
I could not lift it out of the water, all I could do was lift it about half way. Thought about keeping it because it was at the time by for my biggest fish of any kind. We both guessed it weight in the area of 60-70 lbs. But really didnt want that thing in a 12' tin boat:)
After talking to a local taxidermist he said it was a alligator gar and he would have mounted it for free since it was so large.
Man I would give anything for at least a picture, but now after catching 100lb tarpon, 50 lb cobia, 30lb red snapper and 10 lb black bass in my life so for that one fish with it's multiple hits and finely boating it is one top of my list of fish caught. The 5 hit a shakyhead in some brush. It was hot, but those fish made is seem like I was fishing in Alaska :)

Sunday, the lake opens at 1230 or so on Sunday, I wasn't in a hurry to go and sweat so I got there around 230. slight nw wind with some clouds(thank you lord)
Both days the water temp was in the low 90's but it's green that's a good thing.
I started fishing and went a couple of hours with only 2 small fish on a crankbait. around 5 or so, I hit a shallow bar where I've caught some big fish in the past and was bumping the bottom around a bream bed and this fish hit and went crazy, she was around 19 inches and around 5lb

sweet! that's why we fish.

That fish made my day and I was ready to start fishing back to the boat area. I stopped to hit another shallow bar that sits about 15 feet off the bank, I know it's a bream bed, seen the big holes when the water was clear. I started dragging the crank though the holes, feeling it hit then bounce up, on about the 3rd hole I felt the crankbait go away from me, I leaned into the hit and knew I had another solid fish on. It went crazy, I stumbled around for the net, when a 9/10 pounder jumps it's awesome(as long as I'm not in a tourney:)

This fish was over 24 inches long and I know it was close to if not over 10. I didn't weight it, cause it was just too hot to keep it out long, I wish I did weight it. Ohwell it was big toad! Sunday all 4 fish hit a H2O crankbait, was a long slender chartreuse with a green back kind that runs about 4 feet deep.

Both days were hot but fun. 2 over 8 and 2 more around 5. Now that's bass fishing in the south in June :)

Here's video I shot on Saturday of the 8, sorry quality, it's hard to fight the fish and shoot the vid, I'm working on my technique :)

Fish on
Danny

Turtle fight

Went fishing down on Lake Lu in livingston al. Been going down there about every weekend, hoping the big toads will start their summer feeding patterns. I've done so so. Nothing over 5 or lbs since April but the last couple of weekends the fish have got a little bigger. On may 30th the biggest 5 would have gone about 15 or so. They were sitting on a brush top on a ledge. Crankbait were the ticket. This past weekend, I caught a couple from that brushtop but I found some good fish on another. Past Sunday jump off one over 5 and boated 2 over 4 with some misses. Hot though!

Here's a quick video of a turtle that got a little too close to my crankbait. I spent the weekend over at Lake Lu. That's a small 55 acre lake on the campus of west Alabama campus in Livingston Alabama. I'm going to do a post on that lake soon so you'll see what the deal is. Big fish is the deal :)

Saturday, got there at sunup, clear sky's light nw winds. The fishing was pretty slow most of the day. Around 12 or so I found some fish on brush near the channel and started catching some nice fish. 4 over 15 inches and a couple more around 12" or so. most came on a Banditt Flatmax(my fav:)

Sunday, went to the balloon race at sunup, see pic, pretty cool, I wanted to fly with them but instead just took some pics. see top!

Sunday, headed to lake lu at 12pm for about 5 hours, started off at the same place, caught 2 nice ones, missed one and thought well I know there here I'll go find more and come back here and really clean up......nope,didnt find them anywhere else and when I got back to the brush on the ledge, caught 1 more about 3. that's it. Fun of course anyhow. That's way we do what we do :)

Hope everyone had a great weekend. I can't wait untill I'm on the water again.
until then, fish on
Danny

week is about over, wohoo!

Hope everyone has a great weekend! Found out friday night that there would be about 400 to 500 tourny boats on the lake saturday and decided to go to the round hole first off trying to beat the other boats. We did, and first pass, partner boated a 4 1/2 lber. Good start, on the 3rd pass he boated the 6+ fish and we continuted to circle this small hole.
I finaly got a keeper, then another one. So, about 10 passes in this little circle of water and 4 for about 15lbs.
What to do, go and try to find that last keeper or keep circleing? Well, we went looking, bad, bad! NEVER, NEVER leave fish to find more fish........learn damnit!
If we had stayed we would have got that 5th fish and could have won the darn thing, but you have to learn from your mistakes and I did.
*Should'nt have to learn this one over and over though:(

!8.8 won, 17.5 2nd and our 16.8 3rd. Just 2 days after a cold front and a ton of rain. I knew that some big fish would be caught and wanted to at least be there just in case it was me to catch them :) Well some were caught, one guy got 2, both over 7. There were prolly more caught but I didnt hear about them. If you in the south/west part of Alabama, lake lu is a place you should try to hit. Robby the manager does a great job and the lake is full of big bass, big bullgills and nice shell crackers.
I did throw the big trap some, and also the small mann's bait, didnt catch anything on either and looking back I wished I had thrown the trap more. I ended up with 7 small bass that I gave to some guys fishing for dinner. Robbie wants the unders out and trys to get everyone to take them out and I help :)

Sunday, I wanted to go and check out the blue angels that were in town for the weekend. I didnt go sat because I knew the crowd would be huge, well it was over 125000 came to town, I heard the traffic was very very bad. So my plan was to fish early, get back and go watch some jets. Well at sunrise it was raining and storming. I should have stayed in bed but I'm hard headed and wanted to get down to Bibb county lake another lake that is FULL of big bass but for me thier very hard to catch. But, after sitting in the truck for about 30 mins waiting on the storms to pass, I went out for about 5 hours, 4 small bank runners were all I could get. Caught those on a fluke, one of my go to lures when the fish are in 5ft or less.
It looked like the prefect spring morning, clouldy, rainy, foggy, man it was nice:)
ohwell, that's why it's called fishing not catching. I'll try again as soon as I can that's for sure.

I hope everyone had a great weekend, caught some fish or whatever you were trying to catch:)
I'll be back in the next day or 2 for more :)

Fish on
Danny

More Custom painted lures, wohoo

I can't wait to get on the water this weekend and give these 2 lures a try,
The first one is a 1oz Trap in Shellcracker(red ear) this is a big fish bite for sure :)
<img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; Not that anyone reads or cares:)

I was running a little late, called to let my partner know and got there about 10 minutes after most fishing the tourny had already left the landing. The weather was cold rainey and getting colder. When I got there it was 44 and it was 34 when we finished at 3pm. It rained on and off all day made for a uncomfortable day to say the least. We started across from Beeswax landing in some cuts with boat houses and docks. First skip with a spotremover w/5" yum dinger got a 2 1/2 lb spot. That got me warmed up somewhat:) then I missed a bite and caught a small keeper. I made another cast and my line started heading right for the boat, I tired to catch up and set the hook, but when that happens and when it's a BIG fish 8lb line sometimes isnt strong enough, it broke:( I knew right then what I did wrong, I should of caught that fish and it would have made a difference for sure. But that's fishing. We then tried some docks, more grass, points but the wind got up and we moved to find something else that would give us some deeper water and block the north wind somewhat. I had found a few north pockets on a map and we headed over to them. The first pocket had a nice tree laydown and I threw my chart/white spinnerbait and slowly worked it down the tree, a nice 2lb largemouth ate it and gave me 3 keepers in the boat. Moved on down the river bank fishing laydowns, grass and whatever we thought might hold a fish or 2. When it's that cold you want get many bites so it's a numbers game, a thousand cast might get you a few bites if your lucky. On down the bank we came across another pocket that had a boat fishing the point, I worked around them slowly and when they left I moved over and fished a concrete seawall, good move:) first pass down the wall I nailed another 2+lb fish on my jigworm, then on the next pass I caught my 5th keeper(woohoo) it's always a major goal to get a limit and I had it then. We worked on down the river and decided it was getting close to time to head back, I wish we would have hit that wall 1 more time but ohwell.
We ran back to the creek where the landing was and started fishing the dock that produced the first 2 fish but didnt find anthing. I wanted to fish a bridge and some rocks before we finished. Good call, I caught one more keeper and it was a largemouth that was the same lenght as my small spotted bass but had a bigger belly and weighted a few ounces more. At the weight in, 12.9 one it, 2nd was 12 and we got third with almost 11lbs. 4th was just 5 ounces behind, that last fish got me in the money:)

Sorry this was a little long, but I had a great time, and can't wait to go fishing again.

untill then, good fishing
Danny

"the biggest fishing invention since the hook"

This is what ex-owner of Ronco, Ron Popeil said on TV about the pocket fisherman when he released it. It's a hour drive down I-20/59 to the exit that carried us to lake Lu on the campus of West Alabama University. It's a small lake with some big fish, http://lakelu.uwa.edu/ A good friend from high school holds the lake record little over 15 lbs. I've had some on that rank up there with the biggest fish I've ever hooked. Biggest I've evered boated was around 7. My son got his biggest so for this past Feb, picture is in one of the post below. Anyhow, got to the lake right at opening time, 6am. I was surprised to be the only ones there, normaly thier several folks getting boats and there to bank fish. But this morning we had the lake all to ourselfs. Very nice way to start the day.
We loaded the boat with enough fishing gear to sink a battleship and headed across the lake. I wanted to start on the bank that the creek channel came close in. From the time we got in the boat we saw fish busting the top, chasing bait, having a good time. I thought we might have a good topwater bait BUT, could not really find the lure they wanted, tried buzzbaits, pop'rs,stick baits and soft jerkbaits but only found a couple of somewhat interested fish. Dj started fishing his "new" bait. He has got the dropshot technique down pretty well and started catching some small throwbacks. I started throwing a carolina rig with a 4 inch yum dinger worm. around 9am we were up on the upper end around the stumps and cover around the creek channel, after a small fish I caught one around 4 1/2 nice fish, miss another bait and then went to a blade and stuck one around 3 and had one try to take my rod, missed him:( Few more bites and a small fish or 2 and we hit the last pocket, battery was dieing and it was getting hotter. I threw the white spinnerbait into the middle of the small pocket and was rewarded with another fish over 4lbs. Those type of fish on a spinnerbait are great, ton of fun.

Well, fun morning with 3 very nice fish and a bunch of smaller fish to keep us wanting more. Always a great day when I can fish with my son.

God bless and Good fishing
Danny

Back

Well, it's been a few months since I started this blog and I had some life things get in the way of adding to it. BUT, now I'm back. I'll be posting my fishing reports and any fishing news that comes my way.

The BASS master classic is about to get underway in Pittsburg, it'll be interesting to see who catching them. At the moment "IKE" is one of the hottest Bass fishermen on the planet. Also, it's great to see my fishing hero back in the big game. We were using a aluminum boat and it's hard to control it with a trolling motor. After a few hours and 1 small fish we called it aday. It's our 3rd trip to this lake and still haven't put anything together:( I know it's got some big bass because last march 8th(2004) we were there and saw dozens of large bedding bass. This year the water temp is behind what it was last year and we saw none on bed.

Sunday, tried another lake about a hour south that is full of large bass and this is the best time to fish for them. The wind again was a factor and it was hard to control the small boat. We ended up with a handful of small bass, biggest one on a spinner bait about 2lbs. At least we caught a few:) The weather is about to break out down here in Bama and the bass will be in full force in the shallows. I'll be out there all weekend looking for that monster gal. Haven't decided where, might have the boat fixed and if that's the case we'll head to the lake to see if the spotted bass are where they should be this time of the year. I'll let y'all know for sure.

thanks and tight lines
Danny

World record Bass caught clear lake California March 7th 2005

I have heard a rumor that the world record bass was caugth on Clear lake in California on March
7th 2005. We only had 4 boats fish this one(that would hurt me later:) Got put in and went to the first creek right down from the park. Started fishing the ledge in the mouth my partner got a hit right off the bat and landed a 4# sauger that bit his CB in half:) after just a little while I got a nice 2 1/2 LM on a C-rig, spent the next several hours in the creek with a few other boats. Threw CB,SB, and jigs for a while with a couple of shorts to show. The water was pretty clear in this creek so I then went to a light line and spotsticker jig and junebug senko type worm. Pitching it into cover and started getting bit some and got 3 more keepers in the boat, by 10 was looking for that 5th and final fish to make a limit:) We decided to try some other spots up the lake and left, by then we had 20-30 mile per hour wind and that is NO fun in a bassboat, we took one 3ft wave over the bow and it soaked me to the bone, no fun at this time:( After fighting the wind and losing the trollling Batteries we went back to our first creek and found no more than 10-15 boats in it to try to get out of the wind. We then heading back to the landing an started fishing around the boats and boat slips in about 7 ft of water, I got several bites and finaly caught the 5th and 6th keeper(culled) fish for a limit. Weighted in 5 came in second. Becasue of the low boat turnout, we only paid 1 place BUT I had a great time and caught a bunch of fish. I can't say enough about light line(p-line floroclear) with spotsticker and yum dinger worms(MM saw what they do when he was down last year) I really believe I can catch fish just about anywhere and in any condition with it. My partner now knows about them. count for the day, me- 6 keepers, 4-5 throw backs,4 white or hybid bass and one big drum partner-huge sauger, couple throw backs. great day on Pickwick, guess I'll have to wait another day for that first smallmouth:) Can't wait to fish again:)

tight lines Danny

Welcome to FishCraze

I want to welcome everyone that stumbles onto this little piece of the "net" IF your crazy about fishing let me know and please say hi and enter a fishing report.
